5 tips for preparing for a move
-
Stop stocking up and filling the
pantry with groceries. Use what you have on hand
now, so that you won’t have to move it.
-
Start early. By starting
early you will have more options when it comes to
disposing of unwanted and unneeded items. This
will save you money as you will have fewer items to
move and little or no storage fees.
-
Keep important papers in one place.
Designate a box for storing your important papers
early on in the move process. Place all of
your documents in it, so you will always know where
to find them.
-
Decide which favourite items you want to
keep. Do this early on in the
downsizing process, as it will help you determine
how large your new home needs to be. It will
also help you determine which pieces of furniture
you will be taking. For example, if you aren’t
planning to keep a lot of china, you won’t need a
china cabinet.
-
Make a list of family members and friends
that you may want to give items to. These may
be items that you don’t want to part with, but know
you can’t take with you.
